DVD - great stuff
Just wanted to thank you for masterminding this release. It's really nicely packaged and gives an insight into the phenomenal, unique talent of the man, whom I sadly came too late to (I never got to see him live). The story of the gig in the sleeve is both funny and heartwarming. I ordered 2 copies one of which is for a gift and while I wasnt 100% depending on it arriving prior to Christmas, it was an added bonus!Well done and also thanks for this cracking site, the design and layout is excellentKevin O'Brien

one wonderful night
Sometime in the 1980s, I was support act for Jake. I was in a comedy duo called Lemon and McCarthy playing at the Institute Wrea Green, Lancashire. It was an absolute joy to see and hear Jake's funny stories and listen to his songs. A memory I have forever. God bless Jake.

Hi, Im so glad I found your site.
I have been an admirer of Jake's since I was a child watching him in black and white on That's Life.
I did get to see him live whilst a student in Maidstone and he was wonderful.
I must compliment you on the site which I have found easy to navigate and most imformative.
I live in France now, but did catch a TV tribute to Jake whilst visiting England recently. I would love to be able to see it again and show it to my partner who loves georges Brasssens............can anyone help?
Well, Im a member here now and Im looking forward to the future.
Thank you.

Happy, even loving memories
As a teenager, Sunday night was bath night in our cold council house. "That's Life" was a bit late for us so we had to have a bath first, then watch Esther R. before going "straight to bed". Even then I knew Jake Thackray was something special. Finding him again on Youtube and here on jakethackray.com not only reunites me with happy childhood memories, but also lets me relive my enjoyment of his peculiar folk style. I read with dismay of his bankruptcy and later death. Having been close to both so often I feel closer to Jake. Long live Jake Thackray!

Memories
This site has brought back memories of childhood, sneaking a listen to my Dad's signed recording of Bantam Cock, which I thought was hilarious as a six year-old, and reading through the lyrics now I still do as a 31 year-old.

I'm glad I found this site. I first heard Jake's music as a young child when I found a record belonging to my late mother. I loved the music but it was the lyrics that really caught me - even as a nipper I was bowled over by this man's use ( and love ) of language. Poetic, funny, sad, caustic, bawdy, cynical, romantic. Now, as a 40 something bedroom guitarist I sometimes have too many whisky's of a night and insist on playing 'the black swan' to my girlfriend ( well, an approximation at least - I'll never be able to match Jake's playing ). I tell her it's the most beuatiful song I've ever known, even better than Dusty Springfield's version of 'if you go away'. The funny thing is, I've never met anyone of my age who is a fan, or has even heard of Jake. I thought I was alone 'til I visited tonight.

I was wondering of anyone could tell me where I could find a recording of Jake's song "Remembrance". I have seen a rather scratchy video of it online but would like to hear a proper recording of it. It is a simple yet profound song about conflict. But much, much better than I could ever describe. Give it a listen if you haven't yet done so.
